CHRIS OBRIST (born 1981) lives and works in Lucerne, SWITZERLAND. Before studying at the Hochschule Luzern Design & Kunst, he worked as an advertising specialist in a renowned advertising agency. In 2015 he graduated with a bachelor in fine art and mediation. Since then he has been working as labmanager at the FABLAB LUZERN. There he mainly gives introductions to the machines such as 3D printer, laser cutter, CNC milling machine and supports users in their projects. He also regularly organizes workshops on topic of digital manufacturing, rapid prototyping, design process, Arduino & DIY Electronics.
Besides his engagement at the Hochschule Luzern Technik & Architektur (part time) Chris Obrist works as a freelance sound designer and media artist. In his projects and practical works he explores in aesthetic research. His object of research is mainly sound, which he understands as a material to shape time and space. Inspired by insights in physics, mathematics and technology, he deals with oscillations, resonances, feedbacks, deposits and noise. He feels at home in the field between sound art and electronic music. For his generative installations, performances and sound scapes he uses analog as well as digital techniques.
